Harj Rayt
MBChB MD FRCS

Mr Rayt was appointed as a full time vascular and endovascular surgeon in Leicester in 2016 working within a high volume centre of excellence, with national and international recognition.  He qualified from the University of Leicester Medical School in 2002 and completed his surgical training locally followed by a fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.  He has a wealth of experience in both arterial and venous surgery and offers the options of both open and ‘keyhole’ techniques to his clients.  He has a particular interest in vascular malformations including abnormal arterial and venous structures e.g. haemangioma. 
 
Throughout his career he has been involved in advancing vascular surgical knowledge and has contributed to published articles and textbooks regarding vascular disease.  In 2012, he was awarded a higher research (MD) degree for research into abdominal aortic aneurysms and genetics.  He is an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester.
 
Mr Rayt has a passion for training and education and is the Core Surgery Training Programme Director for the East Midlands and a member of the UK Surgical Advisory Committee for Core Surgical Training, which involves supporting and leading training for young surgeons.  He is the course director for the Royal College of Surgeons’ ‘Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient’ course and also acts as faculty member on a number of national courses such as the ‘Basic Surgical Skills’ and the ‘Vascular Limb Salvage Academy’.  He is also a member of the vascular FRCS examination body.
